The Kansas Statehouse preservation and restoration was a massive project, begun in 1999 by TreanorHL with an Historic Structures Report (HSR) for the State of Kansas. The project was planned in phases, by wing, so that the Kansas House and Senate, in session during the first half of each year, would not have to convene in alternate locations. I joined TreanorHL fresh out of architecture school in October 2011, and was excited that the final Roof and Dome package would be the first project I had the opportunity to work on. I quickly learned from mentoring given in the field how the variety of materials making up the grand building went together, and the intricacies of historic copper roofing. I also got plenty of exercise on daily treks up the scaffolding to the top of the dome!
