Via a unique long-term-lease agreement with the Leavenworth VA, Pioneer Group, Inc. has been converting disused domiciliary buildings to low-income housing, with a priority given to veterans. The domiciliaries were built beginning in the 1870s, as part of the Western Veterans Home established by Abraham Lincoln. This project included developing an interior design scheme for the new apartments in four domiciliary buildings, which was done in cooperation with TreanorHL's Interiors Studio. During construction, several products specified were determined to be out of production, and so it became necessary for me to undertake a quick redesign with equivalent products. The interior scheme was continued in the Ridge Top II project that added an additional five rehabilitated domiciliary buildings to the available apartments at the site, which I shepherded through the construction process. The total buildings in both projects numbered twelve, including nine domiciliary buildings, two houses, and a detached garage, all originally built prior to 1900.
